New Strength Training Guidelines Are Here—And the Takeaway Is Simpler Than You Think

Strength Training Doesn't Have To Be Complicated

For the first time in more than a decade, the American College of Sports Medicine has updated its strength training guidelines.

 The new recommendations emphasize something surprisingly simple: move through a full range of motion, challenge yourself appropriately, and gradually increase that challenge over time, and increase power. 

The good news? Power can be trained with faster, controlled movements—not necessarily heavier weights. These are also principles that can be incorporated into a well-designed Pilates program.
