Private Sessions

Private Sessions include Pilates sessions, therapeutics, and movement retraining.

From the most seasoned athlete to the person who β€œhates exercise” but is ready to make a change, our private sessions are suitable for you. We work with the Pilates-curious, Pilates veterans, pre/post-natal women, pre/post-physical therapy clients, the weekend warrior or the pro athlete.

Instructors at Posture Studio create customized private or duet sessions that help strengthen, align, and reset with insightful instruction. Private sessions are offered in-person or virtually.

How it works: Chose your appointment type. Specify an instructor or choose β€œAll Instructors”. Chose the date and time for an appointment. If there is no availability for a specific instructor, it is because they have a waitlist. Contact the studio to request the first available appointment with that instructor.

Private Pilates Sessions

Private Pilates sessions are a great way to receive individualized instruction that is focused specifically on your needs. Private Pilates sessions can be an entryway into Pilates, offering time to learn the exercises and become familiar with the equipment. They can also help improve your current Pilates practice or offer focused work for athletes.

Private sessions are varied but all cover mechanics of breathing and how this relates to posture, strength and movement. From there, a specific program may be developed for the client’s specific needs for gaining increased strength, flexibility, and mobility for more easeful movement.

Many clients begin Pilates with Pilates private sessions, then transition into classes. Others stay in Pilates privates as they appreciate the focused attention.

Pilates for Injury Recovery

Pilates for Special Populations

Pilates is known for its rehabilitative qualities. That is because Pilates is rooted in the foundations of breath work, core strengthening and human movement patterns. Physiotherapists and Pilates practitioners teach many overlapping exercises, so it’s not unusual for clients to mention that they’ve seen Pilates exercises in a clinical setting.

In a Pilates studio, practicing foundations that are key to functional human movement creates the foundation for continuing rehabilitative training. At Posture Studio, most post-rehabilitation clients are referred from doctors or physical therapists to continue training once their time in a clinical setting is finished. Specialized sessions include training pre-surgery or recovery post-surgery, pre/post rehabilitation and prenatal and postpartum sessions.

Postural + Movement Retraining

Postural and movement retraining is the foundation of the work at Posture Studio and is a loved offering by clients. The studio is known for the insights discovered in these sessions.

Sessions are initially non-equipment based with a focus on the foundations of functional human movement. Much like rehabilitation sessions, breathing, freedom of movement, core strengthening, efficient limb movement and functional movements create the foundation for more dynamic movements that are used in daily activities.

Walking, sitting, squatting, kneeling and other human movements are practiced, as well as discussions about biomechanics for more athletic movements like running, cycling, working with weight machines or lifting heavy objects.

Postural and Movement Retraining sessions are specialized and offered by Master or Senior level instructors Carla Shifflett and Tara Fontenot.

Alexander Technique

The Alexander/Feldenkrais Approach to Poise challenges concepts of strength and flexibility while uncovering vivid resources of support and freedom. By following the guidance but not the example of the teacher, the student takes a radical step forward into owning their own experience. What is valuable and useful for each person reveals itself within a context of effortless support.

Sessions can be indirect, freeing the body’s system to recognize more innate and suitable patterns that emerge as old habits are released. The practice of attention and awareness creates a richer and more fulfilling experience of moving.

Each session explores specific areas of use; head floating, limbs weightless, torso leading, breath timing with whole movement, light walking. These areas will influence all aspects of functioning movement including work on machines, sport activities and daily activities. The explorations are indirect yet help illuminate the function within a learning context that the student carry over into real life applications.

Alexander/Feldenkrais Sessions are offered by Brad Stoller.
