How Does Posture Studio Differ?
Functional-Based Training strengthens our bodies for what they do daily. Our daily tasks ARE exercises but most people don't think of it that way. We squat, lunge, bend, twist, flex and extend our bodies all day long. Practicing movements that we use in every day life allows us to move more efficiently and keeps our bodies mobile and strong.
Individualized Approach: We teach to the student, not to a general class. What this means is that you will never hear our instructors use sets of cues for the whole class (like "get your shoulders down and back" or "draw the belly into the spine"). What you will hear are cues geared toward the individuals in the class, offering a more personalized experience. What's good for one student may not be so for another, and learning from instructors who can see this and convey it makes all the difference.
Knowledgable Instructors: The instructors at Posture Studio have up to 20 years of teaching experience with additional education in anatomy of movement and other types of exercise, including athletic training, dance and yoga. When you come into the studio, the instructor's ability to see and understand movement is clear. The instructors teach with an awareness of individual needs, challenging them in ways that are transformative, and teach classes that are seamless and never boring.
Everyone is Welcome: One of the striking things at Posture Studio is the variety of clients who walk through the door. When you come in, you will see people of all ages and abilities. This creates a space that is inviting and comfortable for everyone. Our clients range from the most athletic to those who are freshly out of physical therapy.
Private sessions are great for everyone from the most seasoned athlete to the person who is struggling with a chronic injury to the person who hates to exercise but thinks they should do something.
We offer private classes for Pilates, yoga, myofascial release and movement retraining. All privates are an hour long and are offered as either personal private sessions or duets/trios.

Pilates Equipment Classses
Posture Studio offers a functional-based training approach to Pilates with a keen eye on form. If you are new to this approach, you'll find that it is a bit different from most Pilates studios. The instructors guide the classes through fluid workouts while also explaining form, function, and how exercises apply to daily life. The result is that your body begins to respond more quickly to making changes in day to day life, so each class transcends the one hour of the session and becomes applicable to life.

The Yoga, Barre & Movement Lab
Yoga, barre, Pilates mat, myofascial release, meditation and primal movement classes are offered in our Movement Lab studio. These classes are a wonderful compliment to your regular exercise routines or a great way to take classes with our highly trained instructors at a lower rate.
Our yoga, barre and Pilates mat classes differ from traditional classes as they do not follow a particular format. The same class might change weekly, so the classes are always a bit different and never boring. One week, your class may involved more standing Pilates/barre work while another week might look more like a traditional mat class while another might include light weights and props. Some classes are based on levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Other classes are for students of all levels.
Posture Studio Pilates is located at 218 West Market Street, on the downtown mall in Charlottesville, VA. There are two unique studios:
Studio A is our rope wall, yoga, Pilates chair and workshop studio. This studio is located on the Market Street side of the building, next to Dinner At Home.
Studio B is our Pilates reformer, Pilates tower/cadillac and Pilates private/duet studio. This studio is located to the left of the Artful Lodger, towards the downtown mall.
